A word with the captain...

Ramel P. Arsolon Captain
  • Q1 How you would describe the life onboard a Green Ship?

Being a captain aboard Green Ship is a challenging one. The power of the engine is somewhat reduced to minimize the harmful effect of the vessel's emission into the atmosphere. That being said, you have to plan in advance your moves to safely bring the vessel to a stand still. Being part of the Green Ship feels so rewarding for me, knowing that you help the environtment irrespective of the challenges onboard.

  • Q2 Having you onboard in our Green fleet for a long time, why you select Aegean Shipping for your career?

I choose Aegean Shipping because of the unending support I get from all of the department ashore. It's quite reassuring that despite the challenges we're facing onboard, having the full support from Operations, Marine, Technical, HSEQ, DPA, Purchasing, Crewing and the rest of the office department. Also their commitment to safety is topnotch. God willing, I'm planning to retire my career here.

1.43 What is the company guidelines for Under Keel Clearance (UKC) for this vessel? At Sea During Ocean Passages: All vessels shall allow for UKC of at least 20% of vessel's draft irrespective of vessel's speed. (Example: ship with draft of 11.00 m should not enter waters with depths of less than 13.20 m.) Ship To Ship Operations: All vessels shall allow for UKC of at least 20% of vessel's draft. Fairways: All vessels shall allow for UKC of at least 15% of deepest draft. In Confined Waters: All vessels shall allow for UKC of at least 10% of vessel's draft. Canal Passage: As per local navigation rules. SBM, CBM and Sea Island Terminals Berths in open locations such as SBM's, Sea Island Terminals and CBM may suffer from the pronounced effects of waves. Consequently weather and sea conditions may require that consideration is given to increasing the UKC allowance to at least 15% of vessel's draft. Deep drafted vessels in passages straits and channels governed by local regulations (such as VLCC Passage in Malacca and Singapore Straits). UNDER KEEL CLEARANCE ALONGSIDE BERTH During the planning stage of a voyage the Master should assess the minimum UKC he is likely to encounter while vessel alongside berth taking all variables into account (tides, loading/discharging plan stages, air-draft restrictions, terminal/port requirements, etc.). The Master should then ensure that the UKC is MINIMUM 40 (Forty) centimeters while vessel is secured alongside berth or engaged in mooring or unmooring operation. In any case that the Minimum UKC could not be maintained, Master shall consult immediately the Operations Manager for further instructions.
